Audience mentions show which other accounts the creator's audience follows and interacts with — a shortcut to adjacent creators, brands, and communities that are relevant to the same audience.
The audience type classification separates real, active followers from mass followers and suspicious accounts: accounts that follow thousands of profiles rarely see any single creator's content, which inflates reach without value.
On Instagram the audience type distinguishes four groups:
- Real people: followers with the active, healthy behaviour you expect from normal accounts.
- Suspicious/inactive: accounts that are unlikely to belong to real people, for example without a bio or profile picture, or inactive on the platform.
- Mass followers: accounts that follow more than 1,500 other accounts and are therefore not classic followers.
- Creators: accounts that themselves have more than 2,000 followers, so they are not regular followers either.
If a creator hides their follower list on Instagram, no audience-type breakdown is possible for followers. In that case the split is shown in the Likers tab of the audience report, or it is unavailable for that profile; all other follower data in the report is unaffected.
