How is the CPM in campaigns calculated?

The campaign CPM (cost per mille) is calculated as: total cost ÷ total reach × 1,000, rounded to one decimal.

  • Cost side: Per creator, influData adds the collaboration price and any additional costs you entered, plus the price per content format (Instagram story/post/reel, TikTok video, YouTube video/short) multiplied by the number of published pieces of that format. You maintain these prices in the Creator Overview when editing a creator.
  • Reach side: The summed reach of all tracked content pieces of the creators with pricing.

Creators without pricing information are excluded from the calculation and listed separately as missing, so you can see for whom prices are still needed. The CPM is available as an overall value and per platform — on Instagram additionally broken down by posts, stories, and reels, on YouTube by videos and shorts. Related cost metrics such as CPE (cost per engagement) follow the same cost base.

A quick example: a creator price of 200 and a reach of 50,000 gives (200 ÷ 50,000) × 1,000 = a CPM of 4, so every thousand impressions cost 4. Note the effect of flat prices: if a creator has one flat collaboration price for the whole campaign, the CPM falls as more content is published, because the same cost is spread over more impressions (the same applies to the CPE and engagements). Read the CPM as one benchmark among several: combine it with engagement figures such as the CPE and, where you have them, click and conversion data from your own tracking to judge the real performance of a campaign.
