Why do influData audience numbers differ from platform-native insights?

Different numbers are normal, because the tools measure different things. Platform-native insights (e.g. Instagram Insights) look at the audience that was recently active — a rolling window of the recent weeks rather than the full history — and locate users via login signals such as IP address or device settings. influData's Audience Report instead analyzes the complete follower base: all followers, including the large share that rarely interacts, derived from public profile signals such as the bio, tagged locations and the language of profile and content.

Consequences: after a viral post or a big collaboration, platform insights overweight the new, recently active followers, while the influData report keeps showing the long-standing base. Multilingual users, travelers and expats can also be assigned differently by profile-based and login-based methods. Use platform insights for "Who was active recently?" and the influData report for "Who follows this creator overall?". Note that influData values are model-based estimates — read them as directional distributions, not exact counts.

What to do if the gap still seems too large:

  • Check that the insights are genuine. Screenshots are easy to edit. Ask the creator for a short screen recording that starts on the profile page and then opens the insights from there.
  • Do a manual spot check. Look through the accounts that comment, like and follow the profile to get a feel for the real audience, and compare that impression with both the insights and the influData report.
  • Still no match? Contact our support via the in-app chat and share the profile and the insights you received; we look into it.

The same applies to TikTok's native Audience Insights: they describe the viewers and followers who were recently active, not the complete follower base built up since the account was created. The influData Audience Report analyzes that complete base, which is why age, gender and country splits can differ between the two views.
